Newcastle United are in advanced talks with AC Milan over the transfer of German defender Malick Thiaw after they submitted an improved bid of €40 million. The player has agreed on personal terms and has given his signal to the move as the two clubs now discuss the final terms of the deal. The Magpies, who suffered disappointment in several of their transfer pursuits, are finally able to seal a move.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  Reports emerged on Thursday that AC Milan rejected Newcastle's initial €30m (£25m/$35m) for Thiaw as the Italian giants demanded a fee in the region of €45m (£38m/$53m). Now reports that the Rossoneri could finally be convinced to sanction the sale of the defender a receiving an improved bid of €40m (£34.6m/$46.5).
